Examining Telescopic Fork
R e s t r i c t o r R o d Assembly.
Remove t h e restrictor rod from t h e pressure tube,
unscrew t h e o i l restrictor n u t and remove t h e restrictor, restrictor cup and pin.

thoroughly degrease all parts and lay o u t for inspection. If the mileage covered
i s more than 20,000 (30,000 krns.)
it
is recommended that all bushes and seals are
changed.
Stanchions. Check that the stanchion i s t r u e by laying a straight edge along it t o
find o u t i f there i s any distortion. If t h e stanchion is t o be used again after straight-
ening, t h e b o w should not exceed

(4.8 mm.).
The owner i s n o t advised t o
undertake the servicing of a fork i n this condition, it should be returned t o a Triumph
Dealer f o r an exchange service replacement.
H e a d L u g s a n d M i d d l e
Lug.
If the motorcycle has been involved i n an accident
t h e lug w i l l require expert attention.
N o attempt should be made t o carry o u t
this w o r k w i t h o u t jigs.
B o t t o m C o v e r Tubes.
Examine f o r indentation and scrap i f defective.
Springs.
If the coils are not unduly compressed, the springs are
fit
f o r further
service.
The free length o f the spring should be within

(12.7 mrn.) of the original
length which

19,L" (49 cms.) solo and

(51 cms.) s/c.
B a l l Races.
Cups, cones and balls should be examined for indentation and pitting
and changed i f necessary.

F r i c t i o n D a m p e r . Examine the friction damper assembly for traces of oil, grease,
rust, etc. Renew the friction disc if at all w o r n and the spring plate if weak o r broken.
P R E S S U R E T U B E A S S E M B L Y
R e s t r i c t o r Rod.
F i t the pin t o t h e restrictor rod, then the cup, restrictor, and
finally the locking nut.
P r e s s u r e T u b e .
Screw the lower valve body t o the pressure tube and insert the
restrictor r o d assembly.
Slide the t o p support sleeve over the restrictor r o d and
screw o n t o the pressure tube.
Checking. T o ensure correct operation of the valve, place the assembly i n a t i n of
oil and pump the r o d up and down. W h e n the pressure tube
i s
filled, the upward
movement of the r o d should be restricted and the downward movement unrestricted.
S p r i n g a n d C a p N u t .
Fit the spring over the restrictor r o d and compress u n t i l
the rod can be gripped w i t h a pair of pliers.
Screw the cap nut i n t o position and
release the spring.
