These models are fitted w i t h camshafts employing a Ramp-Cam f o r m which makes it
necessary
to
maintain
a
0.010" (0.26 mm.) clearance (COLD), between the valve
I
rocker adjusting pin and the valve t i p i n o r d e r t o ensure silent operation and
maximum efficiency.
If the clearance i s appreciably iess t h e valve t i m i n g w i l l be
affected resulting i n loss of power and t h e possibility o f b u r n t valves.

These models have high-lift czmshafts and no silencing ramps are incorporated i n t h e
cam form.
The tappet adjustment, therefore, differs f r o m t h e other models, the
inlet being set at 0.002" (0.05 mm.) and the exhaust at 0.004" (0.10 mm.).

Remove all four from t h e rocker boxes.
P o s i t i o n i n g t h e Valves.
This operation
is
made easier by
f i r s t
removing t h e
sparking plugs.
Turn the engine by the kickstarter u n t i l the t i m i n g side exhaust
valve
is
fully open.
This ensures that t h e o t h e r exhaust valve tappet is making
conract w i t h the base of the cam and no e r r o r can be made when checking o r
re-adjusting
it.

In the toolkit, t , ~ o spanners are provided for this adjustment. (See Fig. 8).
