Installing the Engine

T a p p e t A d j u s t m e n t . Adjust as described o n page 36 and replace t h e four
inspection caps.
C a r b u r e t t e r . This u n i t can be fitted now, o r after t h e engine has been installed i n
the frame. D o n o t forget t o replace the tufnol block o n t h e TR5 and T I 0 0 models.
S p a r k i n g Plugs. Replace and connect .H.T. leads.
Rear E n g i n e Plates. Loosely assemble the rear engine plates t o the crankcase o n
the rigid frame models.

The engine is n o w ready for installation i n t o the frame.

I N S T A L L I N G THE ENGINE

E N G I N E . W h e n the engine
is
ready for installation, ensure thzt :he rear lower
i
stud is fitted i n position w i t h the n u u loosely assembled. Check that.the footrest
spindle i s positioning t h e distance piece between t h e rear engine plates. Place
a
i
box under t h e frame and lift the engine i n t o position. Ensure that the rezr l o w e r
I stud engages w i t h the rear engine plates.

F r o n t E n g i n e Plates.
T i l t the engine back and swing t h e plates i n t o pcsition.

P,e-fit all studs and nuts t o both f r o n t and rear engine plates and attach the cover
I
plates o n t h e ST and 6T models.
I
D y n a m o . Replace t o the crankcase and secure w i t h the timing cover domed nut
and tighten the clip screw.
T o r q u e Stays. Replace t o engine bolts and secure w i t h t h e nuts.

T o r q u e C l i p (TR5). Remove the relevant engine bolt and then pass
it
through
!

the clip back
to
t h e engine.
Securely tighten.

O i l Pipes. Connect tt,e main o i l pipes from o i l tank t o engine and the i o c k e r
feed pipes t o rocker spindles.

R.H. F o o t r e s t . Re-position the spindle and assemble the short u'lstance piece t o
the
L.H. side, which
t i t s
between the engine plate and inner primary case.
P r i m a r y Chaincase I n n e r .
Smear jointing compound around the crankcase
mating scri:ce and assemble t o t h e crankcase and over the shafts.
Replace t h e
primary chaincase t o rear chainguard screw.
