Removing the Engine from the Frame
I
E x h a u s t System.
P.eplace the exhaust pipe: and silencers
zs
an assembly and
ensure that all securing bolts are well tightened.
I
P e t r o l
Tank.
Replace the tank t o t h e frame and ensure that a rubber pad is fitted
a t each side o f t h e connection,
Connect up the petrol pipes.
I
S a d d l e and Twinseat.
Position t o frame and tighten the fixing bolrs.
Testing.
Check that there is petrol i n the tank, t u r n o n t h e petrol tap, set the
controls and start the engine.
Run f o r a short time until the engine i s warm and
then set t h e slow running o n the carburetter.
Finally check over
all engine nuts
and bolts.

R E M O V I N G T H E E N G I N E F R O M T H E FRAME
( R I G I D F R A M E M O D E L S )
T w i n s e a t or Saddle. Remove t h e twinseat. If a saddle i s fitted remove the front

b o l t and t i e t h e saddle back.

P e t r o l
Tank. T u r n off petrol taps, disconnect the petrol pipes, unscrew the four
tank bolts and remove the tank.
E x h a u s t System.
Remove t h e exhaust pipe and silencer as an assembly on the
models 5T & 6T by slackening t h e finned clip bolts and removing the silencer t o
frame bolts.
O n the TR5 the exhaust pipe t o head
i s
released by unscrewing the
adaptors w i t h a "C" spanner.
Slacken off the branch clip b o l t and remove the
silencer b o l t when the system can be removed.
T o r q u e Stays
(5T
&
6 T ) .
Remove t h e nuts secuiing the stays t o the cylinder head
bolts and slacken off the stays t o frame bolt, when t h e stays can be disconnected.
The TR5 steady i s made by utilising a f r o n t engine b o l t through a clip which
i s
fitted
to
t h e iower tank rail.
T o disengage, remove the bolt.
Control Cables.
Disconnect the throttle, magneto (TR5 only) at the handlebar
and the air cable (5T & TR5 only) at t h e rear stays. Neatly loop the cable: as closely
as possible
to
their respective engine fitting.
Footrests.
Remove the L.H. footrest and detach the R.H. footrest and spindle by
simply pulling out.
F o o t b r a k e Pedal.
Unscrew the spindle nut and withdraw t h e pedal.

P r i m a r y Chaincase, C l u t c h , A l t e r n a t o r and E n g i n e S p r o c k e t .
Remove
these parts
as
described on page
83.
Air F i l t e r , B a t t e r y C a r r i e r a n d B a t t e r y .
Disconnect t h e battery lead and
remove t h e battery carrier clip b o l t when the battery can be removed.
Remove
t h e carrier t o p n u t and the t w o base bolts, when the carrier and air cleaner w i l l be
released.
P r i m a r y Chaincase Inner.
Unscrew the
r e a r
chainguard t o chaincase bolt and
I
withdraw t h e chaincase from the shafts.

Oil Pipes.
Place an oil drip tray under the engine and disconnect t h e engine o i l
pipes at the crankcase and the rocker feed pipe
a t
the rocker box spindles.
