Dismantling Spring Wheel
Brake
A n c h o r Plate.
Place the wheel on the bench, brake side uppermost. Prise
ofi
the spindle t o irame anchorage lever and remove the t w o split collars under-
neath.
Withdraw the dust excluder centre sleeve and sliding portion.
Unscrew
the dust excluder securing screws and ease the cover away.
Lift the brake anchor
plate.
Remove the cast-iron ring.
S l i p p e r Roller.
Before t.rmoving the brake drum side slipper roller, test for
freedom of rotation and clearance at each side. If the roller rotates freely and the
clearance is n o t more than 0.002" (0.05 mm.) EACH SIDE,
it
will be in order t o
proceed w i t h the dismantling. Should the clearance be above the l ~ m i t , make a note
of the dimensions t o
assist
rectification on assembly. After checking, remove the
slipper roller.
Turn the wheel over and remove the chamfered collar and dust
excluder assembly.
Remove the slipper roller, after checking,
as
described above.

End Plate. Remove the ten nuts securing the end plates t o the hub and, using the

(See Fig. 53) withdraw the end plate from the hub by tightening
the centre screw of the jig.
A l u r n l n i u r n Shims.
These shims are fitted beneath the end plate and should be
counted on removal t o ensure correct clearance on re-assembly.
