Brake Drum Bearing. Wash i n petrol and when dry, check f o r pitting and inden-
tation of the balls o r race tracks and end float.

Examine the threads and t h e cone fittings on both.
Also check t h e
fit
o i
t h e bearings as any slackness would cause a certain amount o f wheel shake.
F e l t W a s h e r a n d H u b t o B r a k e Drum R u b b e r Seal. W h e n overhauling t h e
wheel, t h e washers and seal should be replaced t o ensure against loss o f grease and
grease penetration into the brake drum.

Grease t h e spindle of t h e cam and insert
it
i n t o t h e housing
f r o m t h e inside of the brake anchor plate. .Place the r e t u r n spring i n position (long
end away from t h e anchor plate) and tap the lever arm o n t o t h e square shoulder
ai
r i g h t angles t o the flat side o f the cam.
Fit t h e lower nut and tighten.
B r a k e Shoes.
Place the t w o shoes side by side i n t h e positions which they w i l l
occupy i n t h e drum.
Fit the r e t u r n springs t o the reiaining hooks, then, taking a
shoe i n each hand and
a t
the same t i m e holding the springs i n tension. position t h e
shoes t o t h e anchor plate.
By turning t h e t o p of the shoe inwards the assembly
can be placed over the cam and the fulcrum pin and snapped down into position by
pressing o n the outside o f t h e shoe.
W i n d t h e brake lever arm anti-clockwise t o
engage t h e r e t u r n spring.

B e a r i n g . Press t h e bearing i n t o t h e brake d r u m and f i t the felt dust excluder and
washer o n top. Secure i n position w i t h t h e circlip.
S p i n d l e Sleeve (Short).
S l ~ d e the spindle sleeve, threaded end first, through the
dust cover, bearing and brake drum.
A n c h o r P l a t e A s s e m b l y .
H o l d t h e brake lever arm towards t h e
"ON" position
and slide t h e anchor plate assembly over the spindle sleeve and i n t o the brake drum.
R E P L A C I N G T H E B R A K E D R U M AND S P R O C K E T IN T H E F R A M E
B r a k e Drum a n d S p r o c k e t .
Position t o the swinging f o r k and ensure that t h e
stud o n t h e anchor plate
i s
located i n t h e brake torque stay hole and screw t h e n u t
i n position.
R e a r B r a k e Rod. Engage t h e rod i n t h e lever trunnion and screw on the adjuster
I
nut.
C h a i n A d j u s t e r .
Fit over t h e sleeve and engage the end plate t o the f o r k end.
Screw o n t h e adjuster nut t o hold t h e adjuster in position.
