The Dunlop M o t o r Cycle Tyres as fitted t o all models, are of the w i r e bead type
and are fitted
into
a well-bare rim.
The w i r e bead ensures that there w i l l be n o
stretch i n t h e t y r e and i n combination w i t h t h e well-base rim, provides for easy
fitting and removal o f t h e tyres and the safe use o f air pressures.
T Y R E P R E S S U R E
Tyre pressures should always be carefully maintained as an lnsuficiently inflated t y r e
i s a prevalent cause of failure of the t y r e walls.
The actual pressure at which the
cyres should be maintained,
i s
a matter f o r experiment and depends on t h e rider's
weight and also t h e weight of a passenger and luggage i f carried.

These inflation pressures are based on
a
rider's weight of 170 lb.
When additional weight
is
added, reference should be made t o the Dunlop Booklet
which advises the necessary increased inflation pressure.
E X A M I N A T I O N
Espectally during t h e period when the roads are being tarred and gritted, the tyres
should be examined periodically and any sharp pieces of stone removed from the
treads. If they are allowed t o remain, no immediate damage may be done, b u t they
w i l l later w o r k right through the cover and puncture the tube.
P U N C T U R E D R E A R T Y R E ( R I G I D F R A M E M O D E L S )
In the event of a rear tyre puncture,
it
i s
not necessary t o remove the wheel
to
carry o u t t h e repair. As shown in Fig. 51, Page 131, w i t h t h e mudguard rear section
removed a large circumference of the wheel
i s
exposed, which makes it easy for the
rider t o remove one side of the tyre from the rim.
For t h e other models, the wheel must
first
be removed.
R E M O V I N G T H E T Y R E
V a l v e C a p a n d C o r e . Unscrew the valve cap and use the specially shaped end t o
unscrew the valve core and defiare the tyre. Unscrew the knurled nut and w i t h the
valve cap and core, place the parts where they will be free from d i r t and grit.
P r e p a r a t i o n of T y r e a n d Levers. It
i s
advisable t o lubricate the cover beads w i t h
a l i t t l e soapy water before commencing t o remove the tyre.
Levers should be
dipped
in
this solution before each insertion.
