SECTION 11: OPTIONAL FEATURES

Dual Source Option

If you have chosen the dual source option on the
Fusion M2, you get the benefit of a CO2 and fiber laser
source both in one system. The operation of this system is
fundamentally the same as running either the CO2 or fiber
laser separately. In a typical job when you are using only
the CO2 or only the fiber laser, you will set your laser
source in the Default Settings section of the Epilog
Dashboard Print Driver.
Setting Up a Dual Source Job
If you are doing a project that requires both CO2 and Fiber
laser sources in the same job, you will use Color Mapping
to determine which parts of the job should be just CO2 and
which should use the fiber laser source.
In this example we are engraving a bottle opener with a
wood handle and metal opener. We've set up the file to use
the default black settings for the CO2 wood engraving, and
color mapped the red for the fiber metal etching.
1. When your file is ready, print it to the laser. In the
Laser Dashboard, set your engraving settings for the
CO2 laser on the General Tab.
2. Set the Resolution, set the Piece Size, and choose
Raster as the Job Type.
3. Under Default Settings, your settings will be for
the non color mapped images. In this case, it is the
handle image, which will be engraved in wood.
4. Set the default color laser source (CO2 in this case).
5. Turn on Auto Focus and set the thickness of the
wood handle (.530" in this case).
6. Click on the Color Mapping tab and click the check
mark next to Color Mapping.
7. Click on the Red color and set the speed, power,
frequency, thickness and offset for the fiber graphic.
8. Next set the mode to Raster for engraving or Vector
for cutting and which laser source you're using
(CO2 or Fiber). For more information on using Color
Mapping, see "Color Mapping" on page 97.
Press the right arrow to apply your settings.
