Step 9. If you are removing another SAS backplane, repeat steps 6 to 8 for removing the remaining
backplanes.
If you are instructed to return the server component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions,
and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Installing the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane
Use this information to install the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane.
Read the safety information in "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices,
and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
To install a 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane, complete the following steps.
Step 1. Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see "Removing the left-side cover" on page 182).
Step 2. Remove the air baffle (see "Removing the air baffle" on page 188).
Step 3. Remove the fan cage assembly (see "Removing the fan cage assembly" on page 261).
Step 4. Touch the static-protective package that contains the hard disk drive backplane to any unpainted
metal surface on the server; then, remove the backplane from the package.
Step 5. Position the bottom of 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane in the tabs of the server chassis; then,
rotate the top of the backplane toward the front of the server until the latches click into place.
