Attention: To maintain proper system cooling, do not operate the server for more than 10 minutes without
either a drive or a filler panel installed in each drive bay.
Read the safety information in "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices,
and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
To remove a 3.5-inch simple-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps.
Step 1. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords.
Step 2. Unlock the left-side cover.
Note: You must unlock the left-side cover to open or remove the bezel. When you lock the left-side
cover, it locks both the cover and the bezel.
Step 3. Open the bezel (see "Removing the bezel" on page 184).
Step 4. Press the release latch to open the drive handle. Then, to grasp the drive handle and pull the
hard disk drive out of the drive bay.

If you are instructed to return the server component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions,
and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
