Removal

1.
Remove the rider's seat <see page
Disconnect the battery, 1;\egative (black) lead first.

Remove t h e starter m otor <see page

Release the bolts securing the left hand engine cover.
Col lect the bottom hose bracket from under the
front two bolts.
Note the positions of the two different bolt lengths.
Discard the 35 m m bolts.

Withd raw t h e cover from t h e cra n kcase against the
pull of the alternator magnet.

To remove the stator from the cover, release the
three bolts i n the centre of the cover and release the
bolt securing the cable bracket. Discard the bolts.

Withdraw the stator.

Do not use tools to tig hten service tool T3 880375.
Tig hten the tool by hand on ly. Over-tig htening of the
tool wil l lead to damage to the a lternator rotor.

To remove the rotor, clean the a lternator rotor to
remove a l l traces of oil, and fit tool T 3 8 8 0 3 75 to the
rotor as shown below. Retai n the tool to prevent the
crankshaft from rotating and remove the centre bolt
from the cra n kshaft.

With the bolt rem oved, locate the spigot from the
larger of the two thrust pads supplied with tool
T3 8803 6 5 to the cra nkshaft.

Assem ble tool T 3 8 8 0 3 6 5 to the threaded centre
section of the rotor.
