Starter Motor

Removal

1 .
Remove t h e rider's seat <see page 16-13).
2 .
Disconnect t h e battery, negative (black) lead first.
3 .
Remove the fuel tan k <see page 10-91).
4.
Remove the airbox <see page 10- 98).
5.
Remove the th rottle bodies (see page 10-107>.
6.
Disconnect the l ow oil pressu re warning light switch.
Z
Ease the boot from the starter cable terminal and
then release the cable bolt.
8.
Detach the cable.
9.
Release the fixings secu ring the sta rter motor to the
crankcase.

Ease the starter motor from the upper cran kcase.

Inspection

1.
Ensure the starter turns freely and without binding.
2 .
Check
the
starter
deterioration. Replace as necessa ry.

Installation

1.
Lubricate the sta rter motor 0-ring with a small
amount of petroleum jelly
2 .
F i t t h e sta rter motor t o t h e u pper cra nkcase ensuring
that the 0-ring d oes not become da maged during
i nstallation.
3.
Fit and tighten the starter bolts to

Refit the starter cable a n d secure with the bolt.
Tig hten to
3 Nm.
5 .
Refit t h e starter ca ble boot.
6 .
Connect t h e low oil p ressure wa rn ing light switch.

Refit the throttle bodies (see page 10-101).

Refit the airbox (see page 10-101
9.
Refit the fuel ta n k <see page 10-92).
10.
Recon nect the battery, positive (red) lead first.

Refit the rider's seat <see page 16- 13).
0-ring

damage
and
10 Nm.
