Battery Commissioning and Charging

New Battery

In order to correctly and safely com m ission a new battery,
the battery comm issioning pr9ced u e listed below must
be
carefu lly
followed.
Th is
commissioning procedure that Triumph recom mends.
The procedure is designed to ensure that the battery is at
its best when fitted to the motorcycle, and will provide the
best possible performance and reliability.
Fai l u re to com ply with th is procedure may lead to reduced
battery performance and/or shorten the life of the battery.
The battery g ives off explosive gases; keep sparks,
flames and cigarettes away. Provide adeq uate ventilation
when charging or using the battery i n an enclosed
space.
The battery contains sulphuric acid (electrolyte). Contact
with skin
or eyes may cause severe burns. Wear
protective clothing and a face shield.
If electrolyte gets on you r skin, flush with
water i mmediately.
If electrolyte gets in you r eyes, flush with
water for at least

Read the i nstructions and warnings delivered with
the battery.
3 .
Place the battery on a flat level surface a n d remove
the sealing foil.
Ensure the electrolyte conta iner part n u m ber matches
the battery part n u m ber to be filled. Battery life will be
greatly reduced if the incorrect volume <either too l ittle
or too much) of acid is added to the battery.
4.
Remove the battery sealing stri p from the electrolyte
container (if applicable) and sve for later in this
procedure. Place the sealing strip on a clean su rface,

If the conta i ner has not completely d ra i ned, ta p the
sides of the container to start the electrolyte flowing
again.

open to the atmosphere for lo nger than is necessary will
start to reverse the chemical reaction which takes place
withi n the battery, g reatly reducing the battery l ife.
1 2 .
After charging is complete, press down firmly with
both hands to seat the caps <do not use tools or force
the caps i nto position).
