Battery

The battery g ives off explosive gases; keep sparks,
flames and ciga rettes away. Provide adequate ventilation
when charging or using the battery in a n enclosed
space.
The battery contains sulphuric acid (electrolyte). Contact
with skin
or eyes
may cause severe burns. Wear
protective clothing and a face shield.
If electrolyte gets on you r skin, flush with
water immed iately.
If electrolyte gets in you r eyes, flush with
water for at least

The battery contains harmful materials. Always keep
ch ildren away from the battery whether or not it is fitted
in the motorcycle.
Do not jump start the battery, touch the battery cables
together o r reverse the polarity of the cables as a ny of
these actions may cause a spark which would i g n ite
battery gasses causing a risk of personal injury.
The battery electrolyte is corrosive and poisonous. Never
swa llow battery electrolyte or al low electrolyte to come
into contact with the skin. Always wear eye a n d skin
protection when adjusting the electrolyte level.

Battery Removal

1. Battery
2. Negative {-) terminal
3. Positive <+> terminal
4. Battery strap
1 .
Remove t h e rider's seat (see p a g e 16-13).
2.
Disconnect the battery, negative <black> lead first.
3 .
Remove t h e battery strap.
4.
Take the battery out of the case.
Ensu re that the battery term inals do not touch the
motorcycle frame as th is may cause a short circuit or
spark which would ign ite battery gases causing a risk of
personal i n j u ry.

Battery Refit

Ensure that the battery term inals do not touch the
motorcycle frame as this may ca use a short circu it or
spark wh ich would ign ite battery gases causing a risk of
personal i n j u ry.
1 .
Place the battery i n t h e battery case.
2.
Recon nect the battery, positive (red) lead first.
3 .
Apply a l ight coat of g rease t o the terminals to
prevent corrosion.
4.
Cover the terminals with the protective caps.
5.
Refit the battery stra p.
6.
Refit the rider's seat <see page 16- 13>.
