SELECTING AN AGGREGATE RATE

When entering a configuration, the aggregate rate for the configuration should always be selected
before any channel parameters are chosen. Once the aggregate rate is entered, the Current Parame-
ters display reports the amount of aggregate bandwidth available after each new rate is selected.
This prevents the creation of a configuration too large to be multiplexed at the selected aggregate
rate.
You should recognize that the operational aggregate rate is not deter-mined by this selection. Pro-
gram plugs on the Clock Generator Plus module select an aggregate rate from the clock signals pro-
vided by the module. The aggregate rate entry is provided so that a configuration can be created,
with different baud rate, in advance of the hardware installation and changes required to support
that configuration. The display always reports the Measured Aggregate Rate along with the selected
rate, so that an operator is aware of any difference between selected and actual rates. If a configu-
ration is activated with the sum of the channel rates higher than the actual aggregate rate, the system
disables channels until the configuration is within the limits of the aggregate rate.
To select the aggregate rate, first use the cursor position keys and the Carriage Return key to select
the appropriate Modify/Display TDM Con-figuration routine from the Configuration Menu. Select
the Modify Channel Parameters routine from the Modify/Display TDM Configuration menu. The
Current Parameters display appears; the cursor is positioned at the channel number parameter in the
display. Enter the letter A.
A list of the aggregate baud rates appears at the bottom of the display. Use the cursor position keys
to position the cursor over the baud rate you wish to select, and press the Return key. The cursor
returns to the channel number parameter, and the selected aggregate bandwidth is displayed below
the channel parameters, along with the remaining bandwidth and measured aggregate rate, as in this
example:
SELECTED AGGREGATE RATE 2.048MHZ EST. REMAINING BANDWIDTH 1.9997MHZ
MEASURED AGGREGATE RATE 2.048MHZ
Special Aggregate Rates
The aggregate rate selection display includes a "Special Rates" choice. This is a provision for non-
standard rates which are not included in the list of aggregate rates and require customized circuitry
on the Clock Generator Plus module:
Special Rates are only available in your system if they have been programmed for your system.
To select special rates, simply position the cursor at SPECIAL RATES in the aggregate rate display
and press the Carriage Return key. Any special rates available on your system are displayed. You
may then use the cursor position and Carriage Return keys to select a rate, in the same manner that
standard rates are selected.
1's Density Selection (Version 3.XX only)
For firmware version 3.XX or higher, a 1's density menu will automatically display once the aggre-
gate rate is selected. The 1's density rate menu appears as follows:
...... 0 48.0K
036R660-000, Issue 10
96.0K
144.0K
NOTE
In 3.20 and later, the 1 's density will come up when "D" is pressed as
the cursor is on the channel number parameter.
192.0K
