Overview

This section describes the Diagnostic Function routines provided through the MEGAMUX PLUS
supervisory port CRT interface. The initiation of diagnostic routines is described; the purpose of
these diagnostic routines is also discussed. These diagnostic functions are only part of the diag-
nostic features available in the MEGAMUX PLUS TDM system. Refer to Section 6, Mainte-
nance, in the MEGAMUX PLUS Instruction Manual for a comprehensive guide to
troubleshooting in the MEGAMUX PLUS system.

GENERAL

The Diagnostic Functions routines provide various tools which locate and evaluate MEGAMUX
PLUS system failures. The routines organize alarm and status information for each MEGAMUX
PLUS component; loopbacks at channel and aggregate interfaces may also be initiated. Channel
loopback tests may be run with MEGAMUX PLUS internal test circuitry, or with customer test
equipment connected to channels. Channel control signals may be displayed and manipulated for
test purposes; the state of control signals may be permanently modified.
Separate diagnostic routines are provided for the following MEGAMUX PLUS components:
Each routine provides various diagnostic features which report or test the operability of these
components. These features are:
Status Scans
When the diagnostic routine for a component is selected, the display includes the status items re-
ported for the component by the Status Scan routines. These items indicate the operating condi-
tion of the MEGAMUX PLUS component. Section 6, Status Scan, provides definitions of the
status items displayed for each component.
Alarm Messages
The alarm messages concerning a MEGAMUX PLUS component may be displayed as part of the
diagnostic routine for that component. The alarm messages report the details of any failure con-
dition. The messages are also used in conjunction with loopback tests to determine the results of
the test. Definitions for each alarm message are provided in Section 7, Alarm Scan:
