Voice II CVSD, PCM, ADPCM, and ASP Channel Data Path Tests

The voice channel data path tests are designed to exercise the VF (ana-log) and digital components
of the various voice channel modules. Test features include calibration or setting of voice output
levels; gain testing of voice output levels; generation of 1 kHz test signals for loopback and display
(with test equipment); loopback paths used with external test signal generators/receivers; noise tests
that evaluate the operation of VF and analog sections of the voice channel modules. The Voice II/
CVSD and Voice II/ASP Channel modules can run all voice channel tests except gain check. Also,
only the Voice II/CVSD Channel module runs the calibrate test. The PCM and ADPCM Voice II
modules cannot run digital noise tests, and require the EAM piggyback card to run VF noise tests,
or the gain check test. The Universal Voice Card/ADPCM module can run all tests, except digital
noise tests. This module contains integral E and M circuitry and does not require an EAM piggy-
back card. Table 8-2 lists the tests that may be applied to each type of module.
Several of the tests refer to the digital or VF side of the voice channel. The VF interface of the voice
channel is the channel interface with telephone equipment. The VF signal from the channel inter-
face is digitized into data that can be multiplexed with other channel data. A loopback or data origin
on the analog side of the channel refers to the channel telephone equipment interface; a loopback
or data origin on the digital side refers to the digital interface with MEGAMUX PLUS common set
components.

There are six types of voice channel data path tests. They are:
Rev dB Levels
This routine allows you to adjust the output level of a voice channel. The level of the channel is set
to 0 or +7 dBm by a switch on the voice channel module. You may adjust that level within a range
of +1.5 dB to -6.0 dB, with 1/2 dB between each step. The levels are set separately for the channel
module at each node. This adjustment is the same as the VF-dB-LEVELS channel parameter, and
becomes the output level adjustment when made; you are also allowed to save the level as part of
this routine.

NOTE
When changing voice output levels through the Rcv dB Levels routine,
it is preferable to save the selected levels in configuration memory.
