The Control State Test allows you to change the state of control signals. There are several uses for
the test:
When you are using special interface types created specifically for your system, you must use
this routine to force signals On or Off. You may also modify a standard interface for a
particular channel by forcing signals On or Off, or changing the state of a signal already
forced On or Off. The routine allows you to save any modifications made; if these changes
are saved, they are a permanent characteristic of the interface until the interface is modified
again.
When running a data path test, you may want to ensure that equipment connected to the
channel does not try to receive and interpret test data: Forcing control signals OFF (such as
DTR or DSR) effectively disconnects the equipment.
Forcing signals ON or OFF indicates how well the channel is responding to CRT interface
commands. If you change a signal using the test and ERR is reported as the new signal state
in the channel status scan, the channel module or some other MEGAMUX PLUS component
may not be operating properly.
Once you have selected the Control State Test, use the left and right cursor position keys to move
the cursor to each signal state position. The up and down cursor position keys step through the three
possible settings for each control signal (passed-through, Forced-ON, or Forced-OFF). Once you
have set the signals as desired, enter a Control X. The channel control signals enter the specified
state, and the message:
SAVE CHANGES Y/N
is displayed. If you want to save the changes (made to the channel in the configuration that is cur-
rently active) enter Y. The message:
CFG MEMORY WRITE IN PROGRESS
is displayed in the Status Line. If you enter N, the changes are not saved, however, the changes are
still effective in the active configuration (you are changing the actual control signals for the channel
as the system operates). To return the channel signals to their original states, you must return to the
Control State Test routine and perform the changes.
If some failure prevents the signal changes, ERR is reported as the signal state. If the system is
working properly, the Receive control states at a node should reflect the Send control states at the
opposite node. After you have saved or not saved the changes, press the Return key; the Diagnostics
Menu display returns to the screen.

NOTE
Take care when forcing control signals On or Off in the Control State
Test routine. If a new configuration is activated, and the interface type
configured for that channel is the same as in the precious
configuration, the system does not attempt to change control signal
states. As a result, any signals forced On or Off may remain in that
condition, regardless of the interface type configured for the channel.
