System Overview
Channel Number
The channel number associates a set of channel parameters with a channel module in the MEGA-
MUX PLUS TDM shelf: The channel number is determined by the position of the channel mod-
ule in the shelf. Channel numbers run from 1 up to a maximum of 54 (you must have one
expansion shelf for a system with up to 38 channels, and two expansion shelves for a 54-channel
system). Figure 2-3 shows the numbering of channels in the MEGAMUX PLUS shelf.
You may also select an aggregate rate by entering an A in the channel number position. An ag-
gregate rate selection display is generated, allowing you to enter or change the aggregate rate for
the configuration.
Circuit Type
The circuit type entry defines the type of data or voice signal that the channel multiplexes. The
selection is determined by the equipment con-netted to the channel; the circuit type must also be
supported by the channel module associated with the channel number. The Voice II/CVSD Chan-
nel module, PCM Voice Channel module, ASP Voice Channel module, or ADPCM Voice Chan-
nel module receives and transmits VF (Voice Frequency) signals; the Data II, III, IV or UDC
Channel module supports all data types for MEGAMUX PLUS.
All data multiplexed by the TDM is synchronous. A primary task of a channel module is to con-
vert input data or voice to a synchronous format, and convert output data to the original voice or
data format. When the circuit type of a data channel is entered, the required logic on the Data Data
II, III, IV or UDC Channel module is activated to provide the necessary conversions.
NOTE:
When you select a circuit type, default values are displayed for the
channel parameters. These default values are displayed and stored
until you change them.
