LOCAL OOS AUTO FRAME UPDATING

Previously, the only way for the out-of-service card to be updated with a new configuration was by
receiving this information from the link. This information was sent by the master node, and echoed
back to the master by the slave node while the slave's redundant Autoframe card picked up the pack-
et. The master's redundant card would also use the echoed con-figuration information. If the link
went down, the out-of-service cards could not be updated. In absence of a working link, an aggre-
gate loopback would have to be performed so that the out-of-service card could "listen in".
Firmware revision level 3.00 or higher includes a Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter
(UART) installed on the Universal AUTO FRAME module which serves to provide local commu-
nication between the In-Service AUTO FRAME module and the redundant Out-of-Service (OOS)
AUTO FRAME module. This communication allows the Out-of--Service AUTO FRAME module
to be updated directly by the In-Service AUTO FRAME module. Alarm and revision information
as well as configuration can be sent to the OOS card.
The state of the UART (ON or OFF) is software controllable. The requirement for turning the
UART ON or OFF is dependent upon the configuration of the MEGAMUX PLUS backplane. If the
UART cannot be used, the old "link" method must be employed. To set the state of the UART, pro-
ceed as follows:
a. Examine the lower left-hand corner of the MEGAMUX PLUS back-plane to determine the GDC
Part No. of the backplane.
b. If the GDC Part No. of the backplane is 036P034-021A-, the default setting (UART ON) is
the correct setting. No change is therefore required.
c. If the GDC Part No. of the backplane is 036P034-021-, the UART must be turned OFF,
as follows:
1.
At the password prompt enter "UART" and then depress the "CTRL" key and the "A" key
simultaneously (CTRL A).
2.
A prompt displays, "LOCAL AUTO FRAME UPDATE (Y/N)?" Select "N" to turn the
UART OFF.
036R660-000, Issue 10
NOTE
The following procedure is applicable for Firmware Revision Level
NOTE
In revision 3.00 through 3.12, the UARTs installed on the In-Service
and redundant Out-of-Service AUTO FRAME modules at both ends of
the system must be set to the same state; that is, all UARTs turned ON
or all UARTs turned OFF.
NOTE
In revision 3.20 and up, there is no password to activate or deactivate
the UART. Rather, the UART updating is automatic, based on the soft
redundancy setting (in the AutoFrame Redundancy Screen), and
based on whether the in-service and out-of-service UARTS are
determined operational by software.
