Introduction and Specifications SpectraComm SRM-6 Overview Timing In 4-wire, leased private line modem applications that use aggregate data rates of 19.2, 28.8, or 33.6 Kbps, the SRM-6 gets its transmit timing from the SC V.F28.8 modem or one of the DTEs. One modem is configured for Internal or External transmit timing, with the modem on the other side configured for Receive transmit timing.

Installation and Setup Setting Card Options The SRM-6 has four user-configurable option jumpers, X3, X4, X5 and X6, which configure the DB-25 aggregate interface at the rear of the shelf for RS-232 or RS-530 mode. Figure 2-1 shows jumper locations and the default RS-232 setting. Note that option jumper X7 is reserved for future use and will not affect SRM-6 operation.
  • Page 20: Installation Guidelines

Installation and Setup Installation Guidelines Two SC2000 shelves or one SC5000 shelf with three available slots are required for installing the SRM-6 and its companion cards. Either shelf can be mounted in 19-inch or 23-inch wide equipment racks. Shelves should be installed in a ventilated area where the ambient temperature does not exceed environmental specifications (see Table 1-1).

  • Page 22: Connector Pinouts

Installation and Setup Connector Pinouts The SRM-6 provides only two external connections: the front panel mass termination DCE channel connector and the rear panel DB25 aggregate port connector. Pinouts for these connectors are listed below. The other interfaces (craft, line, LAN, WAN, etc.) are provided by the SCM or the modem/ DSU companion cards.
  • Page 23 Installation and Setup Rear Panel DTE Port (Interface “B” in Figure 2-2) The SRM-6 and the modem/DSU provide a rear panel DB25 aggregate port connection between those two devices. The table below describes the pinouts. • For an aggregate rate of 56K or 64Kbps, channel rates can be 2.4K, 4.8K, 9.6K, or 19.2Kbps, synchronous or asynchronous.
  • Page 24 Installation and Setup Management Link Cable (Interface “F” in Figure 2-2) A management link is required between the two SC2000 shelves installed with the SRM-6, the SCM and the modem/DSU. The table and figure below describe the pinouts at the two pairs of cable connectors (P1/P3 to Shelf #1, and P2/P4 to Shelf #2).
  • Page 25 Installation and Setup Management Connection Procedure The following procedure makes a management link between two SC2000 shelves using GDC cable P/N 024H218-001 at the two sets of Berg pins on each shelf. Proper placement and orientation of each cable connector is required in order for the SCM to manage the devices in both shelves. 1.
