MEGAMUX PLUS KEYBOARD

The MEGAMUX PLUS operating system uses a small number of keys for most operations. The
keys required to make selections for any display are defined specifically for that display; the sta-
tus line indicates which keys are active and how they function at that point in the selection pro-
cess. This method minimizes operator error, since pressing the wrong key will usually have no
effect on the display. The following paragraphs describe the purposes assigned to CRT keys dur-
ing MEGAMUX PLUS operation.
Cursor Position (Arrow) Keys
The cursor position keys are the most commonly used keys on the MEGAMUX keyboard. They
move the cursor from one selection to the next on menus and most displays. In selections where
a limited range of choices are available (for example, the Circuit Type channel selection can be
synchronous, asynchronous, isochronous, transition-encoded, CVSD, PCM, ASP, ADPCM or U-
ADPCM) the up and down cursor position keys move the cursor through the range of selections.
Carriage Return
The Return key (CR) is used in conjunction with the cursor position keys to select from a menu
or a displayed list of choices. After the cursor position keys position the cursor at a display item,
the Return key is pressed to make the selection. The Status Line always indicates when use of the
Return key is required.
Numeric Keys
The numeric keys are those keys with the numeric values 0-9 assigned. They are used when spe-
cific numeric values (such as channel numbers) are required in a display. The numeric value en-
tered becomes part of the display as soon as the cursor is moved to another selection on the screen.
Alphanumeric Keys
The alphanumeric keys are all the keys with numeric values, alphabetic characters, punctuation
marks or symbols assigned. The entire set of alphanumeric keys are activated only to enter user-
defined names for channels and control signals, to send mail messages, or to enter and change
passwords.
Control Key
The Control key, when pressed simultaneously with the X, C, S, Q or P key, invokes special
MEGAMUX PLUS functions. Each Control function is described separately in the next para-
graph.
