BUILDING A CONFIGURATION

A MEGAMUX PLUS TDM may be delivered and installed with a complete set of configurations,
or may be installed completely unconfigured. Even when the unit is completely pre-configured, you
will probably need to make minor adjustments to some channel configurations. When creating a
new configuration, you should follow these steps:
1.
Name the system configuration (up to ten characters are allowed in the name; the name may
be entered/modified as part of any channel configuration, or when entering an aggregate rate).
2.
Enter the aggregate rate.
3.
Enter the name and parameters for each channel configuration.

COPYING CONFIGURATIONS AND CHANNELS

The creation of three configurations could be a monumental task if you had to enter every channel
parameter for every channel. As part of the Configuration routines, you are allowed to create new
channel configurations and entire new configurations by copying the parameters of an existing con-
figuration.
Copying Channel Configurations
Typically, many channels in a TDM system share identical channel parameters. Since most com-
puter sites have many terminals built by the same manufacturer, the channel parameters for chan-
nels supporting these terminals are the same. Voice channels also tend to be configured identically,
since you normally have many voice channels running in parallel from a PBX system or other tele-
phone systems.
In these situations, you need only enter parameters individually for a single channel. You may then
invoke the Copy Parameters from One Channel to Another routine; the system creates a new chan-
nel configuration or a range of channel configurations for the channel numbers that you specify.
You then enter each channel configuration to assign a channel name for reference in displays and
diagnostic routines.
Copying channel configurations is also useful when channels have similar characteristics (for ex-
ample, some asynchronous channels may use the same character format but operate at different
baud rates). By copying these channels and then modifying them to reflect differences, you save
most of the work in entering each set of channel parameters individually.
Copying System Configurations
There are far more similarities than differences between two alternating MEGAMUX PLUS con-
figurations. While certain data processing devices may exchange information exclusively during
business hours or after normal working hours, most of the computer or voice equipment at a site
remains on-line at all times. This means that, once a configuration is created, much of the work in
entering an alternate may be avoided by copying this configuration and then modifying the new
one.
The Copy One TDM Configuration routine allows you to copy an existing configuration to another.
Each configuration is identified by name and assigned a number 1, 2, or 3; you simply specify the
number of the configuration copied from, and the number of the configuration copied to. You may
assign a configuration name to the new one either before or after initiating the copy (a configuration
name is an item in any channel configuration within that configuration, and can be changed when
configuring that channel).
