DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE
Engine Monitoring
RESULTS
Engine Speed: Engine RPM when running or cranking. Use this data to verify Crankshaft Posi
tion Sensor operation.
Ignition Timing: When in homogeneous mode, this data shows the beginning of ignition in de
grees BTDC or ATDC. During stratified mode, fuel timing leads ignition by one or two millisec
onds. This data indicates the millisecond time delay between the fuel pulse and ignition pulse.
Spark Duration: Time duration of ignition spark measured in milliseconds.
Fuel Timing: Shows the beginning of the EMM pulse to the fuel injector in degrees BTDC or
ATDC.
Fuel Pulse Width: Time duration of EMM pulse to fuel injector; measured in milliseconds.
Barometric Pressure: Indicated in Inches of Hg. This data allows EMM altitude compensation.
SWITCHES
In S.L.O.W.™: YES or NO: "YES" means engine is in S.L.O.W.™ mode. The water tempera
ture sensor reading can verify this condition. Ground the water temperature switch lead and
watch this value change when engine goes into S.L.O.W. ™.
VOLTAGE
Use these readings to verify regulator and charging system operation.
Alt. 45V: Indicates voltage available to power the ignition and injectors. Slightly less than Alt.
12V when EMM is first powered up; 38-45 volts when engine is running.
NOTE: Most sensors, switches, and voltages will have associated service codes. Refer to the Service Code
Chart in the Diagnostics section of the FFI ™ Service Manual for a description of the failure and the corre
sponding System Check gauge response.
