FFI™ FUEL INJECTION
Action Steps - Fuel System
Gasoline Safety
A WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive under certain conditions.
Always exercise extreme caution whenever handling gasoline.
Always refuel with the engine stopped and outdoors or in a well ventilated area.
Do not smoke or allow open flames or sparks in or near the area where refueling is performed or where
gasoline is stored.
Do not over fill the tank. (Do not fill the tank neck.)
If you get gasoline on your skin or clothing, immediately wash it off with soap and water and change clothing.
Never start the engine or let it run in an enclosed area. Gasoline powered engine exhaust fumes are
poisonous and can cause loss of consciousness and death in a short time.
ACTION STEPS - FUEL SYSTEM
Delivery System
A. Make sure there is fuel in tank - no water.
B. Inspect all fuel hoses and connections.
Step 1: Verify Fuel Delivery to Injectors
A WARNING
Fuel system may be under pressure and could spray fuel when schrader valve is installed, gauge is at
tached in fuel line, or when fuel line is removed from an injector.
A. Install in-line schrader valve fitting (PN
2872602) in "fuel out" line. (If applicable)
B. Connect a 100 psi (690 kPa) gauge to pres
sure tap on schrader valve.
C. Connect tether cord to stop switch.
D. Crank engine. Results should be immediate.
If engine starts, shut off within 15 seconds.
Results:
20-30 psi (138-207 kPa) - OK. Check Fuel
Injection System operation, Step 3.
Low or no pressure - suspect air in fuel line
or damaged fuel pump. Check for air leaks.
Test fuel pump. Replace fuel pump if neces
sary.
Excessive pressure - fuel return line.
Pump won't run - go to Step 4,
NOTE: Cranking or running engine should show the same results
Install Schrader Valve In-line
(Standard on 2000 FFI™)
