FFI™ FUEL INJECTION
Action Steps - Fuel System
Step 5: Voltage Supply Tests. Battery must be of adequate capacity, fully charged with clean, tight connections.
A. Remove 8-pin connector from rear of EMM and connect FFI™ EMM Service Power Connector PN
2872456.
B. Install tether cord to stop switch
C. Verify fused B+(battery positive) at Red/Purple wire, terminals 1 and 8 at the PCM (Power Control
Module) 8 pin connector (see Chapter 9, page 27). There should be more than 9.5 volts while cranking,
12 volts while running.
Results:
OK - verify 45 volt system. Go to Step D.
Low voltage: Verify battery capacity, condition, and connections.
D. Verify 45 volt system by checking voltage with injector jumper on any injector. Check for any of the
following:
Remove 8-pin connectorfrom rear of EMM and connect FFI ™ EMM Service PowerCon-
nector (PN 2872456).
Tether cord connected to stop switch/engine not running.
Cranking - approximately 20 volts. Check White/Red wire and ground.
Engine running - more than 24 volts and steady at idle. More than 40 volts and steady
above 3500 RPM.
Results:
As specified - check supply voltkge at injector. Go to Step D.
Any less than specified - test charging system.
E. Check injector supply voltage at the leads of each injector connector using PDS(injector) jumper tool
PN 2872623. *Voltage can also be monitored using FFI ™ Diagnostic Software.
Results:
Same results in Step C - all OK.
No voltage on some - check voltage at the blue (29), purple (19), and green (9) injector
wires of the EMM pin out. OK - repair wire or replace engine wiring harness. Inspect
connector at injection and wire harness.
No voltage on all Check voltage at 8 pin connector @ 2 and 7. No voltage on 2 and 7,
check Ohm test on stator windings. If OK, replace the EMM.
Conclusion
The fuel system should now operate properly. If some cylinders are still running lean or rich, look for crankcase
air leaks, ignition problems, or test individual components such as the ignition coils.
