FFI Diagnostics
Testing Ignition System
NOTE: Do not start the engine during any stat
ic test. Doing so will cause erratic operation
until you shut off the engine.
Type "2" and press the "ENTER" key to test the
ignition system.
The computer will now prompt
you to install a spark checker onto the high tension
leads. After installing the spark checker, press any
key to advance to the next screen.
If a spark
checker is not available, a timing light may be sub
stituted. Keep high tension leads on spark plugs
and connect timing light to a lead. The light will
flash when electricity passes through lead. Do not
look directly at timing light or eye damage may occur.
The computer will next display a screen that allows
you to enter the number of the cylinder you want
to fire. Type the number of the ignition you want
to fire.
The next screen (not shown) tells you which cylin
der is firing and how long it will continue to fire. The
ignition will fire approximately once a second for 5
seconds. Use the spark checker to observe the
spark.
The screen counts down the amount of
time to the end of the test. If you press any key,
the ignition will stop firing immediately. The screen
changes back to the previous screen when the ignition
stops firing.
When you are finished testing ignition, press the
"X" or "ESCAPE" key to return to the Static Test
Menu.
