ELECTRICAL
Multi-Function Instrument Compass Calibration
Compass Calibration
The electronic compass provides eight points of heading information. Its solid-state design utilizes no moving
parts, can be electronically calibrated, and unlike mechanical systems, is immune to vibration. The compass will
be reasonably accurate without calibration. However, like all compasses, there are many factors which can influ
ence the accuracy, such as geographic location, angle of operation, magnetic characteristics of the watercraft,
etc. It is recommended that the following calibration procedure be performed on all watercraft when the craft is
first launched, if the geographic location changes significantly, or if the battery is disconnected.
NOTE: It is important that the watercraft is floating and away from any large metal objects or magnetic sources
at the time of calibration.
1.
Press the "MODE" button until "ENGINE HOUR" is displayed.
2.
Press "SET" for approximately 4 seconds until "CC SET 1" is displayed.
3.
Carefully align and hold the watercraft in any direction.
4.
Press the "SET" key. The display will now read "SET 2".
5.
Again, carefully rotate the watercraft 180° and face it in the opposite direction.
6.
Press the "SET" key.
The MFI will use these two readings to calculate the proper calibration and store it in the memory.
NOTE: When operating the watercraft, some error may be introduced if the angle of pitch is different than when
calibrated. Therefore, for the most accurate readings, make sure the angle of pitch is the same as when cali
brated.
