6.3 Operating Problems

The following table provides information about common operating problems that might
occur with an UltiMate 3000 system and lists probable causes, as well as remedial actions.
For more information, also see the manuals for the other modules of the UltiMate 3000
system.
Problem
No information
appears on
the detector display.
Problems during
control under
Chromeleon
No flow
The system has very
high backpressure.

Probable Cause
The instrument is not
connected to the mains.
The power is turned off.
The instrument is in standby
mode.
The screen brightness or
contrast is not adjusted
correctly.
The fuses blow.
Replacement fuse blows
immediately.
An error occurred in the
electronic system.
There is no connection
between the detector and the
Chromeleon computer.
The USB port on the computer
is not ready for operation.
The system is leaking.
There is a gas bubble in the
flow path.
For further causes, refer to the
Operating Instructions of your
pump.
Fluidic parts in the system
(capillaries, filter, column) are
blocked by precipitate, or
capillaries are damaged by
bending.
Remedial Action
Connect the power cord.
Turn on the detector power.
Press the Standby button on the front
panel.
Adjust the brightness or contrast in
Chromeleon (→ page 72).
Replace the fuses (→ page 114).
Contact Service.

Check the USB cable and connection to
the computer.
Check the USB port on the computer. It
must comply to the USB 1.1 standard.
Find and eliminate the leak.
Perform a wash cycle (→ Autosampler
Manual). Non-degassed wash solution is
used. Degas the wash solution
(→ Autosampler Manual).
Check the capillaries in the system step
by step from the detector to the pump,
remove the blockage, or replace the
capillaries.
