1.4 Configuring Layer 3 Flow Import

To implement Layer 2 communication between the SPU and the S9700 switch, assign IP
addresses on same network segment to virtual XGE interfaces between them, and configure
Layer 3 flow import.

1.4.1 Establishing the Configuration Task

This section describes the pre-configuration tasks and data required for configuring Layer 3 flow
import.
Applicable Environment
When an SPU provides the firewall, load balancing or IPSec, the LPUs of the S9700 switch need
to forward traffic to the SPU for processing.
To implement Layer 3 forwarding of firewall or load balancing, perform the either of the
following configurations:

The sub-interface view is displayed. Traffic is exported from the SPU through this sub-
interface.
Run:
control-vid vid dot1q-termination
The VLAN to which the sub-interface belongs is specified, and the encapsulation mode of
the sub-interface is configured.
Run:
dot1q termination vid low-pe-vid [ to high-pe-vid ]
The sub-interface is configured to allow the VLAN for outgoing data flows. This VLAN
is configured in Step 2.1

Run:
ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length } [ sub ]
An IP address is configured for the sub-interface.
Run:
arp broadcast enable
The ARP broadcast function is enabled on the sub-interface.
When you enable or disable the ARP broadcast function on a sub-interface, the routing
status on the sub-interface becomes Down and then Up. This may result in route flapping
on the entire network, affecting the service operation.
Aggregate the two pairs of XGE interfaces on the S9700 switch and SPU into Eth-Trunk
interfaces to provide higher bandwidth. This configuration is recommended.
Add interfaces on the LPUs and virtual XGE interfaces on the S9700 to VLANs. Configure
IP addresses for VLANIF interfaces and the XGE sub-interfaces.
