To transfer the name to the SCALANCE X408-2, you require an online connection from the
PG to the PROFINET IO device.
1. You transfer the device name to the SCALANCE X408-2 with PLC > Ethernet > Assign
Device Name.

If you are using multiple PROFINET IO devices, multiple PROFINET IO devices are also
indicated in the "Assign device name" dialog. In this case, you should compare the MAC
address of the device with the indicated MAC address and select the correct IO device. You
can also check the assignment visually with the "Flashing On/Off" button (all the LEDs of the
selected IE switch flash).
1. Click on the "Assign Name" button in the "Assign Device Names" dialog box. The device
name is stored permanently on the IE switch. After assigning the name, the device name
you assigned appears in the dialog box.
2. Download the hardware configuration to the controller (in this example, the CP 1616).
