Introduction and Measurement

Powering the System On

This section provides procedures for powering on a racked or benchtop
system. First connect your system to an appropriate AC power source, then
follow the steps below.
Before applying power, make sure the AC power input and the location of the

Warm-up Time: The downconverter and RF source instruments contain ovenized

oscillators which must warm up for 30 minutes to produce accurate measurements.
Standby Mode: The RF source uses a standby mode to keep the ovenized oscillator warm
when the instrument is connected (plugged in) to AC power, even when the power switch is
in the off position. To completely shut down the instrument, you must disconnect it from the
AC power supply.

To power on a racked system

Press the system power switch (front, top right of the rack) to the on
position.
Verify that all instrument power switches are on.
Allow the system to warm up for 30 minutes.
Press the power switch on each instrument to the on position.
If you have the system connected to a safety power strip, turn the strip's
power switch to the on position.
Allow the system to warm up for 30 minutes.
