Applying Network Settings
For network changes to take effect, you must apply the changes, finalize the confirmation,
and reboot the system. To apply all changed settings on the Network page to the ETERNUS
CS800, click Apply at the bottom of the page. Follow the prompts to confirm the changes
and reboot the system.
To revert all network settings to the initial state and undo all changes, click the
Reset button.
Understanding Interface Routing
For a network on the interface to communicate with a host located on a different subnet, you
must specify routing information in the Routing Details section. Routing is used to direct
outgoing traffic from a network interface on the ETERNUS CS800 to an IP address in
another subnet by means of a destination gateway. Responses from the destination are
routed back to the ETERNUS CS800 using the gateway specified for the interface in the IP
Address Table section.
In addition, when configuring segmented network interfaces, if the source ETERNUS CS800
replication, data, and management interfaces are on the same subnet, you must add a host
route on the source ETERNUS CS800 to make sure the replication interface is correctly
selected when replicating data to the target ETERNUS CS800.
See the following examples for details:
"Example 1: Segments and Target on Different Subnets" on page 125
"Example 2: Segments and Target on the Same Subnet" on page 126
"Example 3: Segments on the Same Subnet and Target on a Different Subnet" on page 127
Example 1: Segments and Target on Different Subnets
In the example below (see
CS800 has two segmented interfaces, one for management traffic and one for data traffic:
The management interface is assigned to the 10.30.24.x subnet in the IP Address
l
Table section. This subnet connects to the corporate network by mean of the default
gateway (10.30.24.1).
The data interface is assigned to the 10.20.20.x subnet in the IP Address Table
l
section. This subnet connects to a gateway at 10.20.20.1.
Using the data interface, the ETERNUS CS800 needs to connect to a backup host that
l
is on the 10.50.50.x subnet. Because this host is not on the same subnet as the data
interface, the ETERNUS CS800 cannot communicate with the host unless you specify
routing information in the Routing Details section.
