Dimensional Units
Horizontal and vertical dimensions in command parame-
ters must be provided in one of the following dimensional
units:
Unit
Column
Line
Point
Decipoint
Dot
HMI
VMI
Definition
Width of space character of current font
Height of one line at current spacing
Basic printing industry unit (ln2-inch)
Tenths of a point (ln20-inch)
Basic resolution of printer (l/300-inch)
Horizontal motion increment (l/120-inch)
Vertical motion increment (l/48-inch)
Where a choice of units is available for specifying a printer
function, separate commands are provided for each unit.
For
example,
<ESC>&anl C,
<ESC>&anlH
and
<ESC>&an1X
set the horizontal print position in columns,
decipoints and dots, respectively.
Some commands accept dimensions in fractional units
such as 14.4 points.

In order to minimize the number of characters which must
be sent to the printer
to
accomplish desired functions,
printer commands may be compressed according to the
rules below.
