Customer replacement responsibilities

Customer responsibilities for replacing a chassis.
Chassis replacement is a combined effort between the customer and the IBM
System Services Representative (SSR). Before the IBM SSR can perform the physical
replacement and labeling procedures, you must prepare your environment for
chassis replacement by performing the following tasks:
1. "Determine need to replace chassis"
2. "Preparing for replacement" on page 194
3. "Recording critical device and SAN information" on page 195
4. "Powering off the chassis" on page 198
Note: The device must be removed from the fabric and powered off to perform
these tasks. Contact your support provider if you have any questions about
whether the chassis requires replacement.
Once you have completed these procedures, the IBM SSR can proceed with the
physical replacement of the chassis and components, and labeling procedures.
Once the SSR has completed their tasks for replacing the chassis, you will complete
the replacement process by performing the following tasks:
1. "Downloading the configuration" on page 199
2. "Verifying correct operation of system" on page 200
3. "Verifying correct configuration of the fabric" on page 202
Note: The device must be removed from the fabric and powered off to perform
these tasks. Contact your support provider if you have any questions about
whether the chassis requires replacement.
Determine need to replace chassis
Verify that replacement of the chassis is necessary. If error messages and LED
operation indicates faulty components, ensure that the components are firmly
seated. Contact your support provider with any questions about whether the
chassis should be replaced.
Any of the following events might indicate the need to replace the chassis:
v
Visible mechanical damage to the chassis, including damage to sheet metal or
card guides that prevents correct installation of a blade.
v
Bent or damaged connectors on the backplane (the surface inside the chassis to
which the blades connect).
v
One or more components (such as a power supply, blower assembly, port blade,
control processor blade, core switch blade, or WWN card) do not function
properly even after the component was replaced.
v
Intermittent FAULTY codes for blades. Reseat the blade and visually inspect the
ejector stiffening rails for possible wear or damage. It is important that the blade
