5-4 Installing the Operating System
If the system is Windows 2000:
The minimum size for the partition on which the system is to be installed can be
calculated with the following formula.
1000MB + paging file size + dump file size
1000MB
Paging file size (recommended) = installed memory size * 1.5
Dump file size
IMPORTANT:
The above paging file size is necessary for collecting debug
information (memory dump). If you set the default value of paging
file size smaller than the 'recommended' value, the accurate debug
information (memory dump) may not be collected.
The maximum paging file size which can be set on one partition is
4095MB. If the above paging file size exceeds 4095MB, specify
4095MB for the paging file size.
The dump file size for the system with more than 2GB memory
mounted is '2048MB + 12MB'.
If you need to install any application program or the like, add the
necessary space to the partition in order to be able to install these
programs.
For example, if the installed memory size is 512 MB, the minimal partition size can
be defined as follows depending on the above equation:
1000MB + (512MB * 1.5) + (512MB + 12MB) = 2292MB
If the size of the partition in which the system is to be installed is smaller than "size
required for installation + paging file size", increase the partition size or add one or
more disks.
If the required dump file size cannot be endured, allocate the size to more than one disk as
follows to solve the problem:
(1) Set "size required for installation + paging file size".
(2) See "Setup for fault processing" to make the setting that the debug information (by
the dump file size) is written to another disk.
(If the disk does not have the capacity accepting the dump file size, add a new disk
after the installation by "size required for installation + paging file size".)
= Size necessary to install the system
= installed memory size + 12MB
