5-20 Installing the Operating System
Creating a Connection to the Terminal Service Server (Windows 2000)
The connections to the servers that require management must be created before the terminal service
servers can be managed. The procedure below uses the client connection manager tool to create the
icons of all terminal service servers to be managed.
Create the connection in the following procedure.
1.
Click on [Start], highlight [Programs] and [Terminal Services Client], and click on [Client
Connection Manager].
2.
Click on [New Connection] in the [File] menu to start the [Client Connection Manager
Wizard] and click on [Next].
3.
Enter a name for the connection in the [Connection name] box.
4.
Enter the name or IP address of the server in the [Server name or IP address] box and click
on [Next].
To retrieve the server, click on [Reference].
IMPORTANT: With the terminal service server being a workgroup,
the connection of the terminal service server to a network having more
than one subnet may cause the DNS server to browse the computer
names of different subnets for display. This may prevent the CPU
Blade computer name from being displayed.
5.
Leave the auto logon information entirely blank and click on [Next].
The use of the auto logon information may cause a security problem to occur if a
computer in which a user other than administrator runs the client can access to the server.
6.
Select the proper screen resolution and click on [Next].
It is recommended to use the maximum selectable area. Any client cannot select an area
larger than that appearing on the local screen. At this point, do not select [Whole screen
display]. Later the window and whole screen modes can be alternated with each other. To
be sure that the job is done not in a local workstation but in a remote computer, leave the
window mode unchanged for the initial connection.
7.
Leave the [Enable date compression] and [Cache bitmaps] check boxes off and click on
[Next].
These options are useful only for jobs using the slow dialup link.
8.
Leave the [Start the following program] check box off and click on [Next].
The client has the desktop of the server displayed.
9.
Change the icon if necessary and click on [Next].
10.
Click on [Finish] to complete the wizard.
This procedure allows the server icon to be created. Double-click on the icon to connect to
the server. In addition, by right-clicking on the icon, you can change the connection
property if necessary.
