Showing the End of the Syslog
You can show the last few lines in the syslog file, without following any new syslog
entries, by omitting the
tail logs filename [number-lines]
where
filename (1-255 characters) identifies the syslog file to tail, and
number-lines (optional, 1-4096) is the number of lines to show. By default,
the command shows the last 24 lines in the file.
For example, the following command shows the last five lines in the current syslog
file:
