Area Designation Restrictions When Designated Areas Overlap If designated areas overlap, the editing function programmed last has priority as the setting for the overlapping portion of the areas. If an editing function was programmed for the entire copy while an area designation was already in place, the area designation always takes priority, regardless of the order in which the editing function settings were made.
Page 130
Restrictions on area editing The following restrictions apply to the editing functions that are specified for the area editing. Color Balance: Color Balance can be specified a total of four times for one original, three times in area editing, and once for the entire original. Specification with the same setting in two different areas is still counted as two specifications.
Marker Editing (Partial Editing by Designating an Area with the Highlight Markers) If a black-and-white original marked with a highlight marker is copied using Marker Editing, the copier is able to scan the marks and perform a variety of editing to the marked area, such as adding color or painting the area. The image outside the area designated with the highlight marker is copied in black and white.
Marking Black-and-White Originals Acceptable originals With Marker Editing, use black-and-white originals. If color originals are used, the editing may not be performed correctly. Marks drawn on the original can not be erased. To preserve the original, make a black single-color copy and then use the markers on that. Highlight Markers For best result, use Highlight Markers (red, blue, green).
Page 133
One-point Designation If the image to be edited has a solid border, marking one point inside the border with a highlight marker causes the area inside the border to be recognized as an area. A maximum of 4,000 items can be specified in one original.

Encircled Designation A region bordered by highlight marker is recognized as an area. Any number of bordered areas can be designated on one original. There are two methods for making Encircled Area Designations. Entire Enclosed The entire region enclosed by the highlight marker is recognized as an area.
