6.4 SMC Controller Card

6.4.1 Preparing to Remove and Install the SMC Controller Card
1. Turn off the power but leave the power cord plugged into a wall outlet.
2. Remove the service access cover (table top and rack-mounted units) or the
right plastic and metal panels (tower unit).
See Section 5.1.3, "Removing the Top Cover," on page 5-8 and Section 5.2.2,
"Removing the Right Plastic and Metal Panels," on page 5-14.

3. Attach a wrist strap to your wrist and to a metal portion at the rear of the
chassis.
4. Open the door.
5. Obtain the following tools:
• Medium sized long flatblade screwdriver
• T-20 TORX screwdriver
• Phillips screwdriver
