General notes on servicing and repair procedures

L Warning:
Specific knowledge and special tools are required for servicing the engine and systems.
L Warning:
All servicing and repair work must be done by qualified service mechanics only.
L Warning:
Please note that any parts and accessories not supplied by ROTAX have not been tested and are therefore
not approved. The installation and/or use of these products could affect the efficient operation of the engine.
The manufacturer will not be held liable for any damage resulting from the use of non-original spare parts.
General notes on servicing and repair procedures
I Caution:
Never use inflammable solvents or corrosive liquids for cleaning. Use only fire-proof solvent in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Failure to observe this can result
in damage to the motor, and, could result in serious burns. Always use a respirator appropriate for the solvent which you are using. Failure to observe this warning can result in
serious injury to your health.
L Warning:
The ignition key on the panel must be in the "OFF" position before disconnecting the battery. Always disconnect the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal. Be
extremely careful about the acid in the battery - caustic! If acid from the battery comes into contact with the skin, flush with lots of cold water, neutralize whith baking soda, and
seek professional medical help immediately. Should you accidentally get any acid, even the tiniest amount, in your eyes, immediately flush with copious cold water and immediately
seek professional medical help. Failure to observe these warnings can result in serious skin burns or blindness!
I Warning:
Beware of burns and scalds when draining off hot liquids. Always allow the engine to completely cool. This can take several hours in some cases. Never dispose of any engine
fluid, any cleaning fluid or filter, or any other part that you remove from the engine, improperly. Be sure to follow all environmental rules and laws. Return used engine oil to an oil
recycling station.
I Warning:
Secure the engine to a suitable engine stand before attempting to work on it after removing it from the frame. Failure to follow this warning can result in the engine falling you and
crushing your fingers, or injuring you in some other way.
I Caution:
Make sure that no impurities, metal residue, foreign bodies and/or dirt get into the cooling, lubrication and fuel systems when servicing them.
I Caution:
Always use the specified service tools, devices and sealing and lubricating agents to guarantee the correct standard of repair work.
L Warning:
Never slacken or tighten screws, nuts or bolts with pliers. Always use correctly fitting wrenches. Failure to observe this warning will not only destroy the part upon which you are
working, but could seriously injure your hand.
I Caution:
Always use clean screws, nuts and bolts. Check for defects on the bottom of screw fasteners and the threading. If in doubt, use new screws, nuts and bolts.
I Caution:
Always replace self-tapping nuts with new ones after removing them.
L Warning:
Strictly observe torque settings in the torque wrench setting table when tightening nuts, bolts and screws. Over or under torquing cannot only cause serious damage to the engine,
but could cause an engine failure, with subsequent upset and serious injury, or even death to the rider.
I Caution:
Always check for defects on all oil seals, O-rings and gaskets in all servicing jobs, replacing them with new ones if necessary.

Always replace oil seals, gaskets, circlips and O-rings with new ones after removing them.
L Warning:
Use only the sealing and lubricating agents (thread sealant, gasket sealant, glues, lubricants, cleaning fluids and solvents) specified in this manual. failure to follow the specific
instructions may not only damage the engine upon which you are working, but also can lead to serious injury to you, or the rider.
I Caution:
Clean, blow, dry and check all components before re-using them and follow the instructions when fitting them.
L Warning:
Always wear tight fitting goggles when using compressed air for cleaning parts. Failure to observe this warning can result in injury to your eyes, or even blindess.

Check that all components are complete before fitting them.
I Caution:
After fitting, check that the components are properly secured and in prefect working order.
L Warning:
Gasoline is extremely flammable and becomes explosive under certain conditions. Keep gasoline away from children.
L Warning:
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is extremely poisonous if inhaled. Avoid starting the engine in closed or badly-ventilated rooms. Failure to observe this warning
can result in loss of consciousness or even lead to death by asphyxia.
L Warning:
The battery gives off noxious and explosive gases; keep cigarettes, flames and sparks away from the battery. Provide adequate ventilation when operating or recharging the battery.
The battery contains sulfuric acid (electrolyte). Contact with the skin or eyes may cause serious burns.Always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, and tight fitting goggles or
a face shield when working around the battery, especially when filling the battery with either water or electrolyte. In case of contact with skin, flush immediately with water. In case
of contact with eyes, flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Immediately consult a health professional. The electrolyte is poisonous. If the electrolyte is accidentally
swallowed, drink large quantities of water or milk and then milk of magnesia or vegetable oil. Immediately consult a health professional.
