Servicing procedures
L Warning:
If a component is over the stated wear limits
or if, on inspection, a defect is found which
will affect the efficient operation of the engine,
then this component MUST be replaced with
a new one. Failure to observe this warning
can lead to an engine seizure, with subsequent
accident, and injury or even death.
I Caution:
Observe the safety rules in all servicing
jobs. Beware of the risk of injury from sharp
edges and of the burns hazard when handling
hot engine parts.
N Note:
If dimension is stated to a precision of 0.1
mm or less, then the component must be at
room temperature (20-25°C) for measure-
ment.
Crankcase
• Clean the ball bearings (apart from the hermetically sealed bearings in the engine
suspension), all the bearing housings and the 2 half crankcases with a petroleum based,
fire-proof solvent.
I Caution:
Do not damage the gasket contact surfaces. Do not allow contact
between the cleaning fluid and the sealed bearings.
• Clean all the gasket contact surfaces and check them for damage. Remove any remaining
traces of gaskets with SR 4600 A emery paper.
I Caution:
Do not damage the gasket contact surfaces. The gasket contact
surfaces are very soft, and can be easily damaged. Proceed very
carefully, being sure that you remove absolutely none of the gasket
contact surface.
N Note:
To avoid damaging the gasket contact surfaces, place the half crankcases
on a flat surface and protect the contact surfaces with old gaskets.
• Check that there are no cracks or signs of damage in the half crankcases.

Carter motore
• Pulire i cuscinetti a sfere (salvo i cuscinetti a chiusura ermetica della sospensione
motore), tutte le sedi cuscinetti ed i 2 semicarter con un liquido di pulizia non aggressivo.
I Attenzione: N o n utilizzare liquidi asportando guarnizioni, liquidi sgrassanti o
detersivi. Evitare il contatto tra il fluido detergente e i supporti sigillati
• Pulire superfici di tenuta e verificare se eventualmente danneggiate. Rimuovere residui
aderenti di guarnizioni con tela smeriglio SR 4600 A.
I Attenzione: Non danneggiare le superfici di tenuta. Le superfici di contatto della
guarnizione sono molto morbide e possono perciò danneggiarsi
facilmente. Procedere delicatamente, assicurandosi di non rimuovere
nessuna superficie di contatto della guarnizione.
N Nota:
Per evitare danneggiamento alle superfici di tenuta, porre i semicarter
su superfici piani e proteggerli con vecchie guarnizioni.
• Controllare se i due semicarter presentano fessurazioni o danneggiamenti.
Interventi sulle varie parti
Se un componente è oltre i limiti di
usura indicati o se un controllo visivo
del componente stesso rileva un difetto
che influenza il buon funzionamento del
motore, questo deve essere assoluta-
mente sostituito. La mancata osser-
vanza di questa precauzione può
provocare il grippaggio del motore, con
conseguente incidente e quindi possibili
lesioni o anche la morte.
Su tutti i lavori rispettare le normative di
sicurezza. Far attenzione al rischio di
lesione provocato da bordi taglienti e
scottature dalla manipolazione di
componenti motore riscaldati.
Se una dimensione è indicata con la
precisione di 0,1 mm o inferiore, il
componente deve essere portato ad
una temperatura di 20 - 25° C per la
misurazione.
