DEFECT

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Noise seems to come from timing chain
worn chain or chain guide
Noise seems to come from piston
worn piston or cylinder bore
worn piston or piston pin
broken piston rings or worn piston ring seats
Noise seems to come from crankshaft
worn idle gear
worn crankshaft plain bearings
worn connecting rod head bearing
excessive end float on crankshaft
variator rollers or spring bands worn
Noise seems to come from transmission
excessive clearance or dents between sides of teeth
sides of gear teeth damaged
worn bearings
primary drive pulley sticks
worn or damaged variator belt
clutch centrifugal weights worn
clutch central spring sticks
grease on variator belt or pulley contact surfaces; look for leak
faulty centrifugal clutch
worn variator belt
clutch central spring weakened
defective primary drive contact zone
REMEDY
replace chain or chain guide
replace piston or cylinder
replace piston or piston pin
replace piston rings or whole piston
replace idle gear
replace plain bearings or crankshaft
replace complete crankshaft
reset end float with thrust washers
replace rollers
replace gear components
replace gears and gear shafts
replace bearings
make sure the pulley is running on the pulley bush (enough
grease?), or replace the primary sliding pulley
replace variator belt
replace centrifugal weights
grease ends of central spring
clean the parts concerned with degreasing agent, repair the leak and
replace the variator belt
replace clutch
replace variator belt
replace central spring
replace primary drive pulleys
