PROFIBUS DP
Introduction
The interface module supports the following PROFIBUS DP functions:
• Operation as DPV0 and DPV1 slave
• Identification data I&M0 to I&M3
• Firmware update
• Configuration control by means of the user program
PROFIBUS DP
The PROFIBUS DP interface is used for connection to CPUs. With PROFIBUS DP you can set up
extended subnets.
PROFIBUS is the network for the cell and field area in the open, manufacturer-independent
communication system SIMATIC NET. Physically, PROFIBUS is an electrical network based on a
shielded two-wire cable or an optical network based on a fiber optic cable.
Data transmission via PROFIBUS DP features a standardized interface (EN 50170 Vol. 2) for
the transmission of process input and process output data between SIMATIC S7 and field
devices (DP slaves).
The transmission behavior via PROFIBUS DP is characterized by cyclical data exchange
between the DP master and the DP slaves.
