Replacing the Foam Foundation

To perform the operations below, the front door of the FDM must be com-
pletely open.

Removing the Foundation

Envelope temperature for modeling with ABS is 70
Always wear heat resistant gloves.
1) Turn the locking latch on the Z stage platen clockwise so it is in a horizon-
tal position.
2) Detach the foundation tray from the Z stage platen by pulling the founda-
tion tray handle towards you. Pull the tray out of the FDM.
3) Pull out all the spears stuck into the side holes of the foundation tray.
4) Lift the foam foundation out of the foundation tray.

Attaching the Foundation

1) Place the new foam foundation into the foundation tray.
2) Hold the foam in the tray by the sides and lay the tray foam-side down on a
hard, flat surface. This helps ensure a level surface for the model.
3) Insert each spear into the foam through the side holes of the foundation tray.
Make sure the spears are inserted as far as they can go.
4) Clear any debris from the FDM Z stage platen.
5) Slide the tray between the two guide fences on the Z stage platen. The tray
detents will lock into the tray mounts.
6) Turn the locking latch on the Z stage counter-clockwise until it clicks in a
vertical position.
7) Close the front door to the FDM .
