Warning Messages
The Insight Messages window displays a variety of messages that help
you know the progress of your work. Some of these messages require a
specific action by the user.
Warning "STL Model is oversized in X, Y, and/or Z"
This message occurs when you open an STL file and any portion of the STL
file is outside the modeling envelope. Use the options in the Orient STL
operation to scale, move or rotate the part until it is completely inside the
modeling envelope.
Warning "xx self-intersecting curve on z = n.nnn"
This message means there is a potential problem in the STL file. If there are
overlapping surfaces in the part there will be overlapping facets in the STL
file. Insight slices the STL file and closes the curves resulting from different
surfaces independently. Then Insight detects the overlaps and either
merges the curves or trims them, depending upon the orientation of the two
curves. If the overlapping curve cannot be fixed automatically, this message
refers the user to the problem layer.
Warning "xx curve(s) cross(es) misoriented facets"
This message occurs when some facets of the STL file are oriented differ-
ently from the majority of facets. All facets in a topologically correct STL file
are either facing out (away from the center of the part) or in (towards the
center of the part). In a poorly created STL file, some facets might face the
opposite direction from the majority. Insight decides the direction the
facets should face based on the majority.
Warning "xx curve(s) not closed"
This message occurs when there are open curves generated. That happens
when the surface from which the STL file was created was not a closed sur-
face. This problem can be fixed somewhat by increasing the value in the
"Close Open Curves Less Than" field, which is located in the Slice Options
menu.
