Building Models and Benchmarks
With P400 (ABS) and P500 (ABSi)
Making good models with P400 (ABS) and P500 (ABSi) is different from mak-
ing good models with E20 or ICW06. There are important differences in
storage and handling, as well as a need to very carefully follow loading and
unloading instructions. Please read this technical note carefully and call
Stratasys Customer Support at (952) 906-2283 if you have any questions.
Storage and Handling
ABS, ABSi and their release materials are both dried to -40
Stratasys. Your spools come in plastic bags with desiccant sealed inside to
keep the material dry. Spools must ALWAYS be kept in the sealed bag with
the desiccant whenever not in your FDM modeler. When you load your
spools into the FDM dry box, make sure to place the bags of desiccant inside
the dry box WITH the spools.
It is important to keep the dry box door latched whenever you are not actu-
ally loading or unloading material. This helps prevent moisture from enter-
ing the box or being absorbed into the filament. Check your material for
moisture content each day. The attached Dry Filament Measure (ooze) test
from your FDM manual describes the correct procedure for measuring mois-
ture in your ABS, ABSi, and release materials. If your material absorbs too
much moisture, replace it with a different spool and contract Stratasys at
