SML Code, SML File
Stratasys Modeling Language (SML) code is the list of instructions used by FDM
hardware to build a physical 3-D model. An SML file is created from a generated
tip path or roads.
Speed
The constant rate the FDM head moves in thousandths of an inch per second.
Stairstepping
A surface property in which surfaces not exactly parallel or perpendicular to the
plane of the layers exhibit a step-like profile, in which one layer overlaps another
(less noticeable with thinner layers).
Start Delay
A brief time delay between the time material starts flowing from the FDM tip and
the time the FDM head begins moving.
Start Distance
The distance, in thousandths of an inch, the FDM head uses the Start Flow rate.
Start Flow
The rate material flows through the FDM tip for a tool path during the Start Distance.
STL File (.stl)
A three-dimensional faceted geometric model used in rapid prototyping, in which
planar facets are placed on all surfaces of a model. Each facet is a triangle consist-
ing of a unit normal vector and three vertices. Adjacent facets must have common
vertices. Data can be stored in either ASCII code or binary form.
Support
A structure that holds and stabilizes a part during the building process and is later
removed.
Support Material (See Alternate Material)
Support Works
The portion of the Insight software package which creates, supports, and enables
the BASS system.
Tip (See FDM Tip)
Tip Wipe
Removes excess material from the tip and between layers. It functions
before the next part build.
