Cleaning the FDM Head

The FDM head should be cleaned on an as-needed basis. The head
should be positioned toward the front center of the modeling envelope.
1)
Make sure the head is heated to normal modeling temperatures.
2)
Press the "UNLOAD" button on the control panel to unload filament from
the FDM head. Press the "UNLOAD" button again to toggle it off.
3)
Detach both latches.
4)
After both latches are detached, swing the FDM head to the right until the
inside of the head is completely visible.
5)
Use a dental mirror to examine the drive wheels for any excess material. If
the drive wheels are impacted with material, follow the steps below:

Maintenance—Cleaning the Head
Turn off the power to the FDM by pressing the black
"STOP" button in the upper right corner of the FDM.
Lift the head off its hinges and undo the cable ties.
Pull the head to the front of the machine.
Remove the drive block by unscrewing the two drive block
screws on each motor (located above the drive block connector)
with a 3/32" allen wrench.
Wipe or scrape away any excess material from the top of the
liquefiers.
Wipe or scrape away (plastic knife only) any excess material
from
the drive wheels.
Reattach the drive block with two drive block screws on each
motor (built-in guide pins ensure proper alignment between the
drive block and liquefier opening).
Turn on the power to the FDM by pressing the white
"START" button in the upper right corner of the FDM .
On the liquefier temperature control, verify it is running in auto-
matic mode (the red light on the "AUTO/MAN" button should
be off). If the red light is on, press the "AUTO/MAN" button
twice to turn it off. Call Stratasys technical support for further
instructions.
