Required Maintenance – Lubrication for
the FDM 1600, 1650, 2000, 3000, and 8000
It is critical that your FDM Modeler cables and Z-stage be lubricated to
maintain optimal performance. The FDM 8000 xy table must also be lubri-
cated regularly. The following procedures should be performed once a
month:
Cable lubrication
Z-stage lubrication
FDM 8000 XY table lubrication
FDM Cable Lubrication
FDM cables must be lubricated to prevent drying and cracking of the coating
which protects the wire. You will need the following materials to perform the
cable lubrication procedure:
Clean, dry cloth
Safety gloves
Teflon-based synthetic lubricant
If you have any questions regarding this procedure, contact Stratasys Cus-
tomer Support at (952) 906-2283.
1) Set FDM Modeler model, support, and envelope teperatures to 0° and
allow envelope to cool.
WARNING! The interior components of the FDM are hot! Prior to
applying lubricant, wait for the FDM to cool down to a safe
working temperature. You can open the envelop door to speed
up the cooling process. To avoid injury, make sure you use the
safety gloves supplied with your initial lubrication kit.
2) Apply lubricant to the clean, dry cloth.
3) Using the rag, apply a light coating of lubricant along all FDM cables.
4) Move the Modeler head to expose any ungreased cable.
Move the head using the manual buttons on the modeler. Mov-
ing the head by hand may damage the fuses.
5) Apply lubricant to all cables.
